This is your sign to start a blog for your brand. I may be biased, but I love blogging! It literally made all the difference to our small business. In this article, I’m going to share 10 benefits of blogging for small business. If that’s not enough to convince you to start blogging, I don’t know what is.
1- Blogs Can Drive Organic Traffic To Your Brand’s Website
In all honesty, blogging for our brand is the single biggest driver of organic traffic. We went from less than 1k website visitors a month to more than 150k website visitors a month. I have blog articles I wrote over a year ago that still bring 8k visits a month to our small business website.
Shown below is the organic traffic for my small business. I started working on our SEO in September 2023, and I started blogging once a week from February 2024, and I upped this to 2-3 posts a week in July 2024, just where the curve starts to rise sharply.

So why does blogging increase organic traffic? Well, the short answer is that it gives your brand a chance to answer the questions your ideal customers are searching for. The slightly longer answer is that it improves your website’s SEO (when you do it properly, more on this soon). Each blog article you publish is another chance to be discovered in search engines. Blog articles can reach customers at any stage of the purchasing journey, from providing all-important information to people researching products for future inspiration, to people ready to make a purchase.
2- Blogging Shows Your Customers What Your Brand Does
A blog is the perfect place to showcase exactly what your brand does, and why. Storytelling is big at the moment, and a blog is a great way to tell your story. Create content that tells audiences why you do what you do, how you do what you do (you don’t need to give away trade secrets to create interesting posts for your small business), and even where you do what you do (show your behind the scenes).
3- Blogs Build Relationships and Trust With Customers
Regular blogging builds trust because you are showing up consistently. Customers can get to know you and form connections with you and your brand. This all contributes to a feeling of authenticity, which builds trust.
4- Blogs Build Relationships With Other Brands And Influencers
One of the nicest things about writing blog articles is that it builds a community. In my product based business, we create gift guides. This builds backlinks for them, but also it means they are more likely to share the link as well, creating backlinks for you. Creating shareable content builds 2-way relationships and nurtures community.
5- Blog Articles Can Be Useful For Newsletter Emails
Does your email newsletter require work? Is it an afterthought, sporadic, uninspired or lacking content? If you write a blog post each week, it gives you a reason to send an email to your subscribers. Share a link to your latest blog post, write a bit about why they need to read this post or how it will help them, and fill your email with relevant products. Job’s a good’un!
6- Blog Articles Can Be Repurposed As Social Media Content
One blog post equals one Instagram carousel, a reel and static post. It could become a LinkedIn article, or a Facebook post. Work smarter, not harder.
7- Blogging Costs Very Little But Can Have A Big Impact
My product based business blog cost me nothing to set up. True story. Shopify has blog features included, so if you, like me, have a Shopify website, you should be able to start blogging right away. In general, blogging has relatively low costs involved, and can have a HUGE impact on your brand.
8- Blogs Are A Good Way To Sell without Being Overly Salesy
If hard selling gives you the ick, you are not alone. But blogging is a simple way to sell by showing. Consider it a platform to showcase what you do, tell your story and let the storytelling do the selling for you.
9- Blogs Can Position Your Brand As An Expert In Your Niche
Start by finding out what your customers are searching for. Get on Google and start searching for yourself- pretend you are searching for products like yours and see what else comes up. There will almost certainly be some examples of questions people ask, and similar searches. These are a good indicator of the sorts of subjects you need to be writing about.
Show your audiences that you know what you are talking about and that you are an expert in your area. Share useful tips, tricks and hacks to secure your place as a trustworthy brand and knowledgeable source of information.
10- A Blog Can Build A Community And Boost Engagement
By sharing helpful information, involving other brands, and creating shareable content, your blog can build an engaged community of interested readers. Share your post links on social media, start discussions and even ask your audiences what they want to hear about from you.
